The Cycle
When we got the midterm assignment, I started to think about exactly what about my life, I can turn into a game. So I thought, and I thought, and I came to the reality that my life is just a series of to-do lists. Sometimes I don't do any of the things I need to do, which results in me having to scramble to complete my tasks. So that's the inspiration behind the core mechanic. As for the setting, I had to get a little creative. Other than going to class, I don't go outside very much. It's like I'm imprisoning myself, and keeping to myself. I sometimes felt like I was in my own solitary confinement. So that's where the sketchy, somewhat worn-down setting came from. I modeled my school dorm, and put a sad, warehouse look on it.
Around the time of developing this game, I was unfortunate enough to be forced to move out of my dorm and move back home on extremely short notice. So I had to scramble to finish this game as well. How ironic.
On the bright side, I'm happy how the game turned out, it smells of sad, rushed product, which is exactly what I was going for. It's like method game development. You put yourself in the position of the player character to make your game.
